(Yellowknife, NWT – March 19 2026) – The Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces will hold town halls in Yellowknife, Inuvik, and Dettah next month to talk about how the federal government spends its money.
On April 21, 23, and 25, there will be meetings in Inuvik, Yellowknife, and Dettah.
Shauna Morgan, the MLA for Yellowknife North, says that these meetings will be about working with Indigenous partners to talk about infrastructure investments for Norad modernization and continental defence.
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a $35 billion plan to improve Northern defence and infrastructure.
This plan includes $32 billion for modernizing Norad. Conservative critics questioned this unprecedented investment, but Yellowknife Mayor Ben Hendriksen praised it.
The Department also talked to local businesses about a new defence industrial strategy that would help Canada’s defence industry.
